How long does Botox last?

How Long Does Botox Last?

Botox-Frown-LinesBotox is a neuromodulator used to treat a variety of conditions. Commonly used by experts to treat fine lines and wrinkles, headaches, and hyperhidrosis, Botox is a temporary treatment that, when it wears off, can be repeated to maintain optimal results. The length of time that Botox results last depends on the area being treated, the number of units of Botox used, as well as the way the individual metabolizes the medication.

Botox for Wrinkle Reduction

When a patient seeks Botox treatments to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face, they usually see results appear within a couple of weeks following treatment. Optimal results of Botox facial injections typically last up to four months. As each person’s body metabolizes the Botox at a different rate, individual results may vary, but the procedure can be repeated when the results do wear off.

Botox for Headaches

Many patients who get Botox injections to help treat chronic headaches and migraines experience an improvement in symptoms within a week to two weeks of treatment. Results of the Botox treatment for headaches typically last around 3-4 months. Discuss your condition with your doctor to develop an appropriate treatment plan to meet your needs and keep your headaches at bay.

Botox for Hyperhidrosis

Botox can be used to effectively treat excessive sweating under the arms. When Botox is injected into carefully selected spots under the arms, the Botox will inhibit the nerve signals that stimulate the production of sweat, temporarily preventing the hyperhidrosis. Results of Botox under the arms to treat sweating generally last up to six months, with some patients experiencing results that last longer with repeated treatments. Like any other Botox treatment, it can be performed again once results dissipate.

Botox for Masseter Muscle

Botox can also be used for non-invasive jaw reduction. Patients with a square jaw often have a larger masseter (chewing) muscle that contributes to the square-like appearance. When Botox is injected into the masseter muscle, the muscle contractions stop, causing the muscle to weaken just enough to give the jaw a slimmer look. The results of this particular Botox treatment can last six to nine months.
